The Walter F. Janusz Scholarship Program

Dr. Walter F. Janusz was President of the HSO from 2002 until his untimely passing in 2007. During his tenure as President, our orchestra reached new heights in patron support, audience size, and artistic accomplishment. Walt was a tireless leader and advocate for the orchestra, and we miss him greatly.
Due to the generosity of Walt’s family (especially his wife Jill), the Hanover Symphony Orchestra has established the Walter F. Janusz Scholarship Program to promote the study of music for Hanover’s youth. In the past, the Scholarship Program has awarded college scholarships for seniors, won by a rigorous audition process, from Hanover, South Western, Delone, Spring Grove, New Oxford, and Littlestown High Schools. The program has also awarded Summer Camp Scholarships to student musicians of the Hanover Symphony Orchestra and, more recently, funded private lessons for Student Fellowship members of the orchestra.
In 2023, the focus of the Scholarship Program shifted to rewarding a college scholarship to every student member of the HSO who is a High School senior.
Congratulations to our 2023 winners of the Hanover Symphony Orchestra’s Walter F. Janusz Memorial College Scholarship:
