Hanover Symphony Orchestra
Connect With Us!
Founded in 1995, The Hanover Symphony Orchestra believes in the power of the performing arts to connect communities through music.

The Hanover Symphony Orchestra presents dynamic programming that includes classical and popular styles of music, enriching educational experiences for students and innovative events that bring the community together in support of music education and the performing arts.

We just happen to make great music.

In 1995, the vision of several local Hanover community members became a reality with the creation of the nonprofit organization “The Hanover Symphony Orchestra”. This dream became a reality. The inaugural concert on November 5, 1995 featured the First Movement of the Unfinished Symphony by Schubert, The Royal Fireworks Overture by Handel, and the Triumphal March from Aida by Verdi. It started with a small group of people who wanted to bring live symphonic music to the community to help enrich what was already here. The Hanover Symphony Orchestra is “dedicated to fostering the love of music through entertainment, encouragement and education”. The Hanover Symphony Orchestra added the very successful Taste of Chamber Music as an annual winter event and a fundraiser at Adams County Winery where groups will play rock/roll and jazz, mandolin duets, singing of everything from top songs of today to Broadway musicals scheduled for spring/summer. We will be bringing back the Outdoor POPS concert in the summer. We want the community to see what we can do with the musicians and what we can do beyond classical music.

Among the Hanover Symphony Orchestra’s most memorable and touching concerts was the “Star Spangled Spectacular Concert” performed on November 3, 2001. Although the repertoire for the concert had been chosen in the spring of 2001, the tragic events of September 11, 2001 made the concert especially poignant for the audience and musicians alike. On May 15, 2011, the Hanover Symphony Orchestra joined the Hanover Community Singers in a combined concert as a “Time to Remember the 10th Anniversary of 9/11 and recognize our public servants and military”.

As a part of its mission in the spring of 1997, the Hanover Symphony Orchestra established a scholarship program awarding $2,000 college scholarships to deserving high school seniors and $300 summer music camp scholarships to deserving students of any age.

Throughout its history, the Hanover Symphony Orchestra demonstrated a strong commitment to the community through benefit concerts: The Greater Hanover Area Red Cross, Hanover Area Council of Churches, Hanover Public Library, Hanover Area Literacy Council, and the Eichelberger Performing Arts Center. In July 2007, the Hanover Symphony Orchestra was fortunate enough to play “Titanic” the Musical, for the Acts of Kindness Theater Company with half of the proceeds going to Adams County Arts Council. We also performed on the Hanover Square for Hanover’s 250th Anniversary and the 150th Celebration of the town of Hanover.
