In Memory of Ryan Matthew Summers
Principal Horn
Ryan Matthew Summers, 29, of York died June 25, 2024. Born November 7, 1994 in Gettysburg, he was the son of Jennifer (Snyder) Leitzel and Randy Summers and step son of Galen Leitzel and Robin Summers.
Ryan was a 2013 graduate of Dallastown Area High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Sciences and Disorder from West Chester University in 2017 and then received his Masters in Communicative Disorders from Towson University. Ryan was a Speech and Language Therapist with the York City School District. He is a member of ASHA (American Speech-Language-Hearing Assocation).
Ryan was a very accomplished French horn player. He earned placement in the PMEA All-State Band three years in a row. He performed with the West Chester University Rams Marching Band and Concert Band. For the past 15 years, he was Principal Horn with the Lyric Band in Hanover and the Hanover Symphony Orchestra for the last 3 years. He was also an accomplished pianist.
When Ryan was not involved with music, he was spending time with family playing games, joking around, enjoying gaming with family and friends, visiting the beach, and engaging in endless conversation and playing video games with his BROther. Ryan was a very compassionate person and would always be willing to help someone that was facing a difficult time.
Ryan was survived by his mother, Jennifer Leitzel and step father, Galen Leitzel of York; father, Randy Summers and step mother, Robin Summers of Gettysburg; paternal grandparents, Michael and Doris Heintzelman of Gettyburg; brother, Daniel Summers and wife, Kirsten Summers and niece, Liliana Summers all of York; step brother, Patrick Leitzel of Mechanicsburg; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jeanne and Clair Snyder, Jr., and aunt, Deborah Cox.
A Celebration of Ryan’s Life will be held Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Fourth United Methodist Church, 1067 East Market Street, York with Pastor Connie Milchling officiating. A visitation will be held Tuesday from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Kreutz Creek Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lyric Band of Hanover (www.lyricband.org) or the Hanover Symphony Orchestra (www.hanoversymphonyorchestra.org).
