Dr. Walter (Walt) F. Janusz Fellowship Program
ABOUT
The Walter (Walt) F. Janusz Fellowship is an opportunity for highly talented high school age (incoming 9th-12th grade) musicians looking to pursue a career in music and/or develop their musical skills. The fellowship is a seven-month (January – March) experience that includes a stipend ($350) to pay for private lesson instruction. In addition to the private lesson component. HSO Fellows will also gain valuable experience through performing with the HSO as they aim to present concerts of the highest artistry.
Each year the HSO selects up to three (3) fellows through a competitive audition and interview. The next application cycle opens in August 2022 with auditions held in September 2022.
TIME COMMITMENT
September 2022- March 2023; an average of approximately 8-10 hours per month (plus private lessons).
Fellows are required to attend HSO rehearsals (Sundays from 2:00pm-4:00pm) and the March 27, 2023 Performance.

August 28, 2022: Audition requirements and application published
September 12, 2022: Deadline to apply for the 2021-2022 HSO Fellowship
September 18, 2022: HSO notifies candidates who will audition for the Fellowship and schedules auditions.
September 25, 2022: Auditions
October 2, 2022: HSO notifies the 2023 class of Fellows

Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, Percussion Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass
AUDITION MATERIAL
Two contrasting movements, using either one or several pieces that demonstrate your technical and lyrical playing.
Sight Reading provided at the audition.

Dr. Walter (Walt) F. Janusz Scholarship Program (1997-2018)
The student scholarships include one college scholarship ranging from $1000 to $2000. Any senior from one of the local high schools (Delone, Hanover, Littlestown, New Oxford, South Western, and Spring Grove), or any senior member of the HSO who plans to play their instrument while in college is eligible to apply. In addition, the Hanover Symphony Orchestra underclass student members are eligible for awards to be applied to summer music camp tuition.
